Atlantic City Golf Course Review

Harbor Pines Golf Club - Atlantic City Golf Course

Harbor Pines Golf Club in southern New Jersey, just minutes south of Atlantic City's casinos and boardwalk, is a world class daily fee golf course. Each hole of this Stephen Kay design remains undisturbed by residential or commercial development as it winds around the perimeter of a 520-acre heavily-wooded site. The course was built in 1996 and has been rated four stars by Golf Digest, and Golf For Women Magazine rated it one of the "Top 100 women-friendly courses in the U.S."

Five sets of tee boxes play to distances and slopes measuring 6827 yards/134, 6503 yards/126 slope, 6142 yards/122 slope, and for ladies' 5438 yards/120 slope, and 5099 yard with a slope of 118 from the forward tees. Course yardage is well marked by color-coded stakes along each fairway and fairway disks are placed at 200, 150 and 100 yards from each green. In addition, over 800 sprinkler heads are yardage-marked.

The elaborate sand bunker features are bound to have an effect on a round of golf at Harbor Pines, whether it be the 170' long half-acre bunker that guards the par-4 17th hole, or the long bunker which is crossed by bridge on approach at the par-5 7th. In total there are 67 soft sand bunkers situated near fairway landing zones and greenside. There are 12 ponds strategically located to add a picturesque charm and a challenge for every golfer. Water comes into play on seven holes and mostly runs laterally along the fairways - only two ponds require a carry shot.

The bentgrass fairways and greens are wonderfully maintained, and the natural beauty or the surrounding environment make the course comparable to premier South Carolina destinations. Landing zones are clearly visible off the tee and most greens are angled to face the golfer, enabling players to analyze and plan each golf shot of this beautifully secluded design. The average green size is in excess of 6500 square feet, so correct approaches towards the day's pin are important.
