RENAULT WINERY RESORT VINEYARD GOLF COURSE
Atlantic City Golf Course Review
Designed by Ed Shearon, the Vineyards Course is the centerpiece of the Renault Winery Resort and covers 225 acres of land - 25 of which traverse through the properties vineyards and orchards. Opened for play in 2004, the par 72, 7213 yard layout has received international recognition, as Travel & Leisure Golf Magazine named the property one of the "Best 30 New Courses in the World".
Renault Winery Resort is acclaimed as one of the premier full service resorts in New Jersey, with a variety of accommodations at the Tuscany House, swimming pool, fine and casual dining, banquet facilities, a winery with tours and wine tasting offered at the oldest continuous operating vineyards in the country, plus other amenities. For more info on the resort and stay & play packages, visit the properties website by clicking here.
Golf facilities include a nicely stocked pro shop, with large putting/chipping green. There is no range on property, but golfers can warm up at the hitting net with multiple tee stations. Food is available at the resort across the street - with breakfast, lunch and dinner available. The adjacent winery also affords opportunities for a gourmet dinner experience.
The theme of the course design is angles, with golfers offered choices off the tee and on approach shots. Risk/reward opportunities abound as golfers will have to make decisions on whether or not to play it safe or to cut off yardage by playing diagonally over hazards. The options present skilled players with exciting scoring opportunities, while novice can choose the safer, longer routes with less hazards in the way.
Five sets of tee areas play to distances and slopes measuring 7213 yards/132 slope, 6746 yards/128 slope, 6358 yards/123 slope, 5748 yards/116 slope and 5176 yards (no slope available). There are a variety of sand and waste bunkers to avoid, with 72 traps in total scattered about the course. Water hazards come into play on 7 holes, and golfers with have to tee over the vineyards on the par four 7th.
The course is marked with yardage stakes at 100, 150 and 200 yards, and sprinkler heads on the fairways are also measured to the center of the green on all par fours and fives. Pin placement charts on all carts provide info on the day's hole locations. There is a good mix of open and tree lined holes, with ample landing zones off the tee and frequent recovery room greenside.
This championship quality course offers wonderful views of the vineyards and orchards as it meanders through the majestic pinelands of South New Jersey. For more information, visit our page for the course, with direct link to their website by clicking here.
